Stortbus is a new service set up by the Bishop’s Stortford Minibus Trusts in association with Bishop’s Stortford Town Council and sponsored by Hertfordshire County Council and Home Instead Senior Care, Sawbridgeworth. The service will commence on 4th June and will be running until the end of December, for four days each week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and fares will cost £1.50 for a single journey and £2.00 for a return.

The initiative was set up by Bishop Stortford Town Council in order to allow elderly individuals, both able bodied and wheelchair bound to become more independent, through allowing them to board the bus, at any stage of the route, which operates circularly across Bishop’s Stortford.

Sponsors Home Instead, who look after older people in their own home, understand the importance of such a service and are extremely excited to get involved in such a unique community project. They will be supporting the initiative by providing two of their CAREGivers to help on board the bus on alternating days. Manager of Home Instead David Bassett, had this to add about their involvement “As a team, we’re always trying to find ways and means of making our clients more independent and feel that the Stortbus will enable older people from all over the community to get around with minimal help. We will be providing two CAREGivers each week from our team at Sawbridgeworth, one on Monday and Tuesday and the other on Thursday and Friday. The only problem is everyone’s so keen to get involved, that it may have to be decided through the toss of a coin!”

Home Instead Senior Care is an award winning national company which is changing the way care is delivered in the UK and is rapidly building a reputation as one of the UK’s leading care companies. Their service is tailored to the needs of individual clients and ranges from companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, post-discharge care, personal care, medication reminders, shopping and errands. The service is totally flexible to meet client needs and is available from as little as 1 hour to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
