A new service specialising in caring for older people in their own homes has opened its doors in Peterborough in January 2012 and owners Phil Kennedy and Amy Haggis are hoping to create 40 new jobs in the area. Home Instead Senior Care will offer non-medical at-home care for older people living within Peterborough and the surrounding areas.
For Phil and Amy, this exciting new venture is a change from their previous lines of work but will fulfil a life-long ambition of working together while being able to give something back to the community and are therefore looking forward to building a business which helps people in the local area.
Amy takes up the story: “Although Phil has a background in financial services, and myself in procurement, we have always wanted to find a career which would allow us to help others. Having struggled to find care for Phil’s relatives and feeling concerned about the limited services available, when we heard about Home Instead, we knew it was the right opportunity for us.”
She continues, “Home Instead’s ethos of providing the highest-quality care for older people to allow them to live independently in their own homes is something that we both feel passionate about. We are really excited about bringing this service to our area and providing a person centred care service which is built around the requirements of each individual.
The couple are now on the look out for like-minded people to join their team. Phil comments, “We need people who want a rewarding and flexible career delivering care to people in their own homes. We offer full training so experience is not necessary but candidates must above all else be caring, compassionate and keen to learn.”
In their spare time, Phil and Amy are both very active and enjoy keeping fit and walking their dog. Phil and Amy also take an interest in local charity fundraising and this year plan to take part in The Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk.
