Home Instead Senior Care Oldham and Saddleworth opened its doors for business on 1st April 2009. Owners Mick and Jenny Sheehan are already well-known to many in the area as Mick owned and ran Lifestyle Fitness Centre in Greenfield for many years and Jenny works as a Staff Nurse on The Intensive Therapy Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
After the sale of his fitness centre business Mick laid down the criteria for his next business venture. "First and foremost I wanted to continue working with people but more than that I wanted to do something that would make a real difference'. Coupled with this Jenny had a more personal reason; her grandmother had recently been ill and needed some support at home but the local home care services in Oldham were available on a ‘needs only’ basis. Carer’s were restricted to a limited amount of time per visit and could only provide basic microwave meals. "The two things that would have made a real difference to my grandmother, given the choice, would have been a little more time for chatting and a good, home cooked meal".
It’s Mick and Jenny's aim to do things differently at Home Instead in Oldham and Saddleworth and provide a high quality service where the client chooses exactly what support they want and then decide what time of day they get it. They said “After researching businesses in the care sector Home Instead Senior Care really stood out as an organisation totally committed to looking after the best interests of older people”.
Mick works on a voluntary basis, with a consortium of services from the public and private sectors, on increasing the awareness and importance of Dignity in Care.
During 2010 and 2011 the quality of service provided by the Oldham and Saddleworth office has been recognised by winning two national awards and receiving nominations as finalists in another two awards.
The Oldham and Saddleworth Home Instead Senior Care Office is part of a global network of more than 900 locally owned and operated offices.
