Home Instead Senior Care Oldham & Saddleworth, invited members of the local community to join them in celebrating their 4th successful year in business last Friday (19th April) in their brand new office at 113-115 High Street, Uppermill, where they unveiled their unique UK first; free Alzheimer’s family training workshops.

The team, who specialise in looking after older people in their own homes, moved into their new office in December, as a result of increased demand for their services in the area. Representatives from Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Oldham Council and Saddleworth Carer’s Group were all in attendance, as well as people from throughout the community who were keen to show their support. Guest of honour, the Mayor of Oldham Councillor Olwen Chadderton, was there to making proceedings official.

Owner Mick Sheehan said, “The aim of our open day was to invite everyone from the local community to come and celebrate our birthday and office move with us. We also introduced our brand new, free Alzheimer’s family training workshops. These workshops are a useful tool for friends and families who have a loved one with dementia and also for people who are likely to come into contact with someone who has dementia, for example shopkeepers, Dr’s receptionists, health professionals, police officers and community group organisers. The workshops are designed to help people better understand the disease and offer information on different aspects of managing, supporting and engaging the person they care for.

“As our ageing population continues to increase we will see more and more people we know and love being affected by dementia, so it’s important that as a community we are prepared to help better deal with and understand the disease. We will be rolling out the workshops next month, which will run alongside Dementia Awareness Week (19th-25th May), in a bid to ensure that Oldham becomes a truly dementia friendly town.”
