Tracey Chuwen and Hameed Mohamed welcome you to the Manchester office of Home Instead Senior Care, which opened in June 2010.
I was born and bred in inner city Manchester and now live in Ladybarn, my first experience of caring was when at the age of just 15 my mother was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour. I gained first hand experience of the help that was available to us during this time and also later when I looked after my father at home during his battle with cancer.
Hameed, who lives in South Wales, has always been around care, from an early age when his mother use to bring home clients from the nursing home she worked in. “Growing up around the elderly was an everyday occurrence in our house. There was always one or two from the nursing home having a meal or a sing-along, especially at Christmas. So much so we opened a family run nursing home. When we closed the home and families came for their loved ones there was one lady who had nowhere to go. I took her home for the weekend as her son was arranging her transfer........ 12 years later she was still living with me!
Just giving something back to the older generation gives me such pleasure, A small thank you for all the laughter I had and the values I was taught at such a young age.
It is a personal mission for us to try and provide the best care possible to help people remain in their own homes for as long as they can. When you have seen your own family suffer with inadequate care you know exactly what is needed to make a difference. Just because we get old or ill, doesn’t mean we cannot have a quality life, eat what we want, when we want. Go to bed when we want and get up when we want, never mind choosing what we want to wear!”
My professional career as a carer included working in nursing homes and hospitals and also at Calderstones providing care for adults with learning disabilities in their own homes. Here I was introduced to various Holistic Therapies and saw the life-changing benefits that it gave people, so I enrolled at Stockport College to study massage, reflexology, Indian head massage, and aromatherapy. Once qualified, I turned from student to teacher and was employed by the College to teach Massage.
I have had a lifelong passion to care for others with dignity and respect, finding immense satisfaction when working alongside professionals within the local community in knowing that, not only can we help with information on local resources and how to access them, but in knowing that we can deliver quality care. Promoting independence based on a person centred approach.
Home Instead was recommended by people that I know in social care and I found that the company’s unique approach was exactly what we were both searching for.
The Home Instead ethos is exactly what we were looking for; this allows us to offer a different working environment for our Caregivers. For example, we match clients and Caregivers – we look for common areas of interest or life experience so that there is an immediate connection and a point of common interest.”
Care visits are of a minimum duration of 1 hour ensuring our clients receive the best quality of care whilst also providing our Caregivers with high levels of job satisfaction. Creating a happy, positive balance”
All this could not be achieved without our Care Manager Laura Cleeve.
