Local lady Karen Robinson has won the prestigious Local Hero award of ‘Carer of the Year’ for her hard work and outstanding services for the elderly clients of Home Instead Senior Care’s office in Macclesfield.

Karen, (33) who lives in Alderley Edge, was put forward for the awards which are hosted by radio station Silk 106.9 and supported by Cheshire East Council by Home Instead owner Julie Akroyd. The event took place at Macclesfield Town Football Club and Karen joined other local heroes who were shining examples of people making a fantastic contribution in the local community.

Julie commented: “Karen is one of our wonderful team of care givers and also on-call supervisor and she is an invaluable member of the team and a truly inspirational person who thoroughly embodies the Home Instead ethos. No matter rain, wind or chest high snow she has never, ever let a client down. During the worst of the snow in 2010, she took to driving a tractor to make a call to a client and has been known to go out at 4am to have a chat with a client in distress.”

Karen was more than a little surprised and she commented, “I’m so pleased to have won this award. There were so many great finalists, so I still can’t quite believe that I won! I really love my job and find it so rewarding to care for my elderly clients. It just comes naturally to me, I just love caring and helping people. ”

As part of Home Instead’s at-home care, Karen provides care services including companionship, meal preparation and medication reminders to her clients in their own home.
