Local home care company Home Instead Senior Care got fruity recently to support World Cancer Research Fund’s (WCRF) 'Fruity Friday'.

As part of WCRF’s UK cancer prevention week (14th -18th May), Home Instead Senior Care who support and assist older people who live in around the towns of Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk created a huge basket filled with a variety of fruit to hand out to its clients, carers and office team in support of WCRF’s ‘Fruity Friday’, which is an annual awareness campaign to encourage people to eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

WCRF UK aims to raise public awareness of the links between diet, nutrition and cancer prevention and this annual event hopes to promote healthy lifestyle choices, including eating at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day to help reduce our  risk of  a range of cancers.

Andrew Van Parys from Home Instead Senior Care commented: "As we get older it's very easy to forget to eat the recommended 5 portions of fresh fruit and vegetables a day so this was a great opportunity to promote the benefits of eating fruit to our older clients as well as to our staff.  Our clients also received recipe ideas and a useful factsheet on the nutritional value of eating at least 5 portions a day and how this can be achieved easily without costing a huge amount’’.
