Our Caregivers have been very busy recently. They have been actively getting involved in a number of local community groups including: Taking Part Advocacy – a group for Young adults with learning disabilities, the MS society based at the Salvation Army in Oakengates and Falls Prevention through Keeping Fit group, Donnington. By talking to people who live with different concerns, it makes it easier to understand what their needs are on an individual basis and helps our Caregivers empathise with that person more. Meeting people in a support group setting is more informal and people find it easier to relax and make friends. Caregiver Jade, from Coalbrookdale, commented that ‘it was really good to know how people with learning disabilities feel about local and personal matters,’ and after the Falls Prevention session, Care Manager Sally Starkey, was positively exhausted. Sally believes that it is crucial for our Caregivers, both on a professional and personal development basis, for them to have first-hand experience of the many conditions that face the community within Telford and Wrekin and Shropshire.Sally would love to hear from anyone who runs or organises a group that would like to share their experiences with our Caregivers, give her a call on 01952 601063.
