Mothers and daughters at the double

Mums the word for two local ladies, Claire Jones and Sarah Dodd!  They have both followed in the footsteps of their respective mothers, Barbara and Jean, and are now happily working alongside them as caregivers for the Chester at-home care company Home Instead Senior Care.

Claire, from Ruabon followed mum Barbara, who came to Home Instead four years ago having previously enjoyed working in the PR department for Cadbury. Barbara was unsure of which path to take following redundancy, however when she saw an advert for Home Instead she realised it would be perfect for her.

Barbara has never looked back; she has enjoyed bonding with her clients and providing the care they are looking for. She found it such a pleasure to work for Home Instead and her role of caregiver so rewarding, that she encouraged her daughter Claire to join her, which she did in 2010. Commenting, Barbara said “I thought it would be wonderful to work alongside my daughter and I just knew she would love it. I told her about what was involved including the type of services we can provide such as companionship. For example I have one client who just wants to get out of the house; we go anywhere, out for lunch, to Chester zoo, as long we are out in the fresh air.”

Claire worked for the NHS before also being made redundant and thought becoming a caregiver would be an ideal role to fit around her baby daughter.  Claire said “It’s fantastic to work alongside my mum and to work in a role that has such a positive impact on someone’s day.”

The second mother & daughter duo is Jean and Sarah Dodd from Ledsham who joined Home Instead together in 2009. They both had experience of care looking after Sarah’s gran who suffered with dementia. Jean and Sarah realised that this was something they would enjoy doing for others and became keen to work in the care industry. When a friend told them about job opportunities available at Home Instead in Chester they applied immediately and were successful in becoming caregivers. Sarah who has just been awarded her NVQ 2 and is working towards her Diploma commented: “We both really enjoy our jobs, its rewarding making a difference to our client’s everyday lives.

Commenting, owner of the Chester office, Chris Broadbent said “It’s great to have the ladies on board; they are intuitive and are very supportive of each other, the rest of the team and of course their clients.”

Home Instead services are flexible to the needs of each at-home client and the foursome continues to deliver personal care, home help and companionship services across Chester and the surrounding areas.
