As the country’s elderly population grows and demand for care services increases, a local company have set up a new business, based in Alresford, which will specialise in providing care for older people in their own homes. The new company will create 40 jobs in what is a real growth sector.
The company, Home Instead Senior Care, which will provide care services in the Winchester, Alresford, Alton, Petersfield and surrounding areas, is part of a national network recognised as one of the UK’s leading in home care organisations. The company’s new office is being set up locally by husband and wife team Steve and Jan Gapper who live just outside Winchester. Their philosophy is simple, to provide a service which will enable older people to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible while improving their quality of life.
When the couple decided that they wanted to set up their own business, one which put them at the heart of their local community, they realised that working in the care sector would allow them to combine their complementary skills. Commenting, Jan said: ‘‘Steve and I had reached a stage in our lives where we wanted to work together. I love working with the elderly and Steve does a lot of work with Rotary which he finds really rewarding so when we heard about the opportunity to set up a care company specialising in care of the elderly, right at the heart of our own community, we jumped at the chance.”
Home Instead services include personal care such as assistance with bathing, dressing, eating and medications; home help covering all aspects of day-to-day housework, shopping, meal preparation and household duties plus companionship services that can involve everything from escorting clients to appointments through to simple conversation and good company. Steve and Jan are now keen to talk to local people with compassionate and caring natures who are interested in working with older people. Commenting on the Home Instead service, Jan said: “At Home Instead we match clients and caregivers so that they share areas of interest, giving them an immediate connection – this is a really different way of working and means that clients receive better care and the work is far more rewarding for our caregivers. “We need local people to come forward and be part of our team. We will only employ people who are committed to making a difference, treating our clients with dignity and respect and working to the highest professional standards.’’
