A new club has been successfully launched for centenarians living in the Broadstairs area. The idea occurred to Linda Johnson, co-owner of Home Instead Senior Care in Broadstairs, after she had helped two of her clients in their 100’s celebrate birthdays this year. Linda decided to set up a ‘100 Club’ to celebrate the lives of those people in the area reaching this significant milestone.
The first club member was Broadstairs resident, Olive Cripps, who celebrated her 102nd birthday in January, followed by Madge Thomas from Broadstairs who celebrated being 100 in April this year.
The first official 100 Club event, a tea dance, took place at the local assisted living facility, St Clements Court in St Peters, Broadstairs on November 11th. Coinciding as it did with Remembrance Day, the team at Home Instead invited local veterans from the British Legion’s Maurice House4 and they joined Home Instead clients, caregivers and residents from St Clements Court.
Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the music, the dancing display including audience participation and an exciting raffle.
Needless to say Madge and Olive each enjoyed a superb afternoon. Commenting Linda said, “What a great time we all had! Olive and Madge really enjoyed being the centre of attention, chatting and sharing memories. It was a great opportunity for the different care organisations to get together to make such a great success of this inaugural community event, celebrating older age. I would especially like to thank Lin Wood and all our staff who freely gave up their time”.
