Techniques for Capturing Memories

Asking Open-Ended Questions

The first method to gather information about your loved one's life journey is asking open-ended questions such as, "Tell me about," "Why?" and "How?" Do encourage detailed responses but try not to push or direct.

Ask questions about objects
in your loved one's living place to help gather memories. These could be shelf or wall items that you have not talked about before or about which you would like to learn more details.

Ask Family & Friends

Ask your loved one's family members and friends open-ended questions about their shared memories and experiences. Always be sure to focus on general memories and emotions, not details.
