Here at Home Instead Senior Care we believe in ensuring our CAREGivers have all the necessary skills and training to feel confident delivering care and support to our clients in a professional and safe way. All our CAREGivers are provided with Manual Handling as part of their recurrent annual training.

The course includes the theory of biomechanics, how to avoid the dangers of injury and accidents to a client and to oneself whilst moving a client and legal requirements. However, most of the course is “hands on” practical training including assisting a client to stand, turning a client who is in bed and placing someone in the recovery position. These manoeuvres are practised using beds, wheelchairs and walking frames as well as hoists in a room with confined space to enable our CAREGivers to gain valuable, realistic experience of dealing with situations they may face whilst in a Client’s home.

This aspect of the training is always well received because as part of the practical training the CAREGivers take it turns to be the “client” who is being assisted and so they gain a different perspective on any situation they may face.
