Our Creative Arts Therapy session at the Windle Valley Day Centre in Bagshot on February 2nd was very well received. Creative Arts Therapy emphasises the process of creation rather than the final product, and for this first session we helped people to create Mandalas of their own design, with plenty of examples around for inspiration.
Mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning "circle". Circles are a powerful symbol found in every culture and Mandalas can be pictures telling stories, recalling memories or simply showing attractive patterns and colours.
Our caregiver Fausta, who has a diploma in the Therapeutic and Educational Application of the Arts and loves to involve people in new ways of expressing themselves, was very pleased to have this opportunity. "This is my passion" she said, watching people working with pencils, crayons and paints to create the lovely designs now decorating the walls at the Day Centre.
