Sprightly Clapham senior citizen Louise celebrated her 100th birthday by going for a brisk walk around the Common before retiring to her home for tea and cake with friends and relatives.
Louise, who was one of Home Instead Senior Care Wandsworth’s first customers, recalled how she spent a summer on a Kent farm during the First World War, picking apples.
"Evening meals were cooked in the barn on an open stove and our bed was a bale of hay. There were no health and safety officers in those days,” she said laughingly.
