Local man, Neil Cook, who owns the Halton office of Home Instead Senior Care, has been raising money for Action Medical Research which undertakes research into children’s illnesses, by cycling 100 miles in 10 hours.

Family man, Neil, who is a keen cyclist, tackled the hilly terrain through Stokenchurch, Turville Village, which is the location for ‘The Vicar of Dibley’ and Didcot raising £200 for the charity.  His two children, Freya, 6 and Louis, 3 intend to follow in their daddy’s cycle tracks. Louis has just learnt to ride his bike and can’t wait to be cycling alongside Neil when he is big enough.

Commenting, Neil said “It was a great achievement but not without its dramas, we had six punctures, five of them on one bike! As a result we finished three hours later than scheduled; my daughter decided she deserved my medal for waiting around for me and proceeded to wear it for the remainder of the day.”

“I enjoy using my love of cycling to raise money for charity – having previously cycled from John O’Groats to Chester for Cancer Research. As my day job focuses on care for the elderly I have been raising money for research into Alzheimer’s but I am also keen to support other charities.  This time I chose Action Medical Research, their research can save and change children’s lives and there is great demand for funding.”

Action Medical Research cover three vital areas, tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies, targeting rare diseases and helping children affected by disability, disabling conditions and infections.

Neil is now looking into his next cycling endeavour and hopes to be joining another Home Instead Senior Care office in Cardiff on a Chester to Cardiff tour in aid of the Alzheimer’s society.
