Home Instead celebrate with Rosemary on her 90th Birthday

Home Instead were delighted to be part of Rosemary’s 90th birthday celebrations.  An afternoon tea party was arranged for all close friends and family of Rosemary who attended Northampton School for Girls before attending Art College in Northampton.  From there Rosemary became the first trainee Occupational Therapist at St Andrews Hospital, Northampton.  She met Desmond (her late husband) while at Art College.  Desmond joined the British Air Transport Auxiliary, flying fighters and bombers to RAF Squadrons which meant Rosemary and Desmond being stationed in various parts of the country.

After the war Desmond joined the family firm of J R Elmer which was based on St Giles Street, Northampton.  This very successful family business ran for 100-years until closing in the late 1980’s.

Rosemary has been heavily involved in Inner Wheel, being a member of Northampton IW for the last 50-years.  In that time she has been President (more than once!) of her own club but also District Chairman of District 7.  Desmond was a Rotarian of the Northampton club, becoming District Governor.  They were both awarded the Paul Harris Award for outstanding contributions to Rotary and Inner Wheel.

Rosemary was an accomplished needlewoman and calligrapher – examples are dotted around her home.

They had two children, Christopher and Sue.  Rosemary is now a grandmother to 4 and a Great-Grandmother to 6-month old Milo.
