Growing up in her grandparent’s house, and caring for her grandmother towards the end of her life, has set Southampton woman, Sarah Rees (27), on a new career path. Sarah has recently joined the Fareham team of at-home care provider, Home Instead Senior Care, in the role of Caregiver.
Having spent quality time with her grandmother, Sarah wondered how older people without family close by managed and how this would impact on their quality of life. When Sarah heard that Fareham-based Home Instead was looking for Caregivers, she jumped at the chance to step in.
In her role as a Caregiver Sarah spends time with clients providing the care that they need and offering companionship. Commenting on her new role, Sarah said “It doesn’t feel like work when I visit clients, we have a good chat and a laugh and talk about each others’ day. One particular client who I visit twice a day shares my passion for music. We will sit and listen to Classic FM together and discuss some of our different tastes; we learn a lot from each other and I enjoy her company too.
“It is an indescribable feeling to know you can improve a person’s quality of life, provide the support they need and give them something to look forward to again.”
