Community Development Officer – Rachel Roberts-Newton accompanied a local client John Dyke to support SSAFA at a local charity event.
Christina Howard the Secretary of The Royal British Legion Hyde Branch organised the wonderful WWII Christmas Afternoon Tea at Park Cafe in Hyde Park. In her spare time she supports Charities with PR and Produces Shows. SSAFA Forces Help are a great Charity working at ground and local level to support Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families. Both charities are safeguarding the welfare, interests and memory of those who have served in the Armed Forces. Offering Individual grants for those in need and home visits to the long term sick and housebound and also provide practical, financial and emotional support for Widows and Widowers and Disabled Veterans and those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder .They are very low on funds and the WWII Concert was attended by Veterans and local people and families. Entertainment was provided by The Clarendon Entertainers and Volunteer Models and Actors were families of serving Forces. The audience sang along to well-known favourites such as “A nightingale sang in Berkley Square” and College Students in Uniforms made them feel they had stepped back in time. Patrick Dawson; SSAFA Tameside Divisional Secretary gave a profound and excellent presentation to open the event and refreshments were provided by the Park Café. Everyone enjoyed a brilliant evening with the WW11 Veterans as the main Stars.
