Our first Edinburgh Older Person’s Information Event, held at Northfield Community Centre, was a great success with the local elderly community. The event brought together numerous local organisations to provide free advice and information to older people and their families. The organisations attending also benefited by finding out more about each other, enabling them to signpost people looking for help more effectively.
Organisers Home Instead Senior Care specialise in providing companionship based care to older people; helping them to improve their quality of life and maintain their independence, at home, for as long as possible.
Owner of Home Instead in Edinburgh, Andrew Senew commented, “The event was a great success. Events like these are so important because many elderly people and their families struggle to know where to turn to for support and advice. Especially so when a crisis hits after mum has a fall and is no longer able to look after herself, or when families are just concerned that dad is no longer coping on his own, but is too proud to admit it. Scenarios such as these are so common and we wanted to provide some help and some answers. Following the feedback we have received we are going to make this a regular event!”

Particular thanks go to the National Osteoporosis Society who travelled from Clackmannanshire; and local councillor Maureen Child, who came along at the end of a long day hearing contentious planning applications!
