Mike Francis, owner of Home Instead Senior Care's Cambridge office was recently invited to talk to members of U3AC about care in the home in Cambridge. A group of over 20 U3AC members attended and the event was judged a success by all parties.ÃÂ
ÃÂ
Mike offers talks about the process and what to expect if anyone comes to the point of needing care in their own home.ÃÂ Many people are assigned care services if they have an acute medical condition or are discharged from local hospitals.ÃÂ Mike deals with what happens when those services turn from post medical care to daily care in the home needs.ÃÂ Mike also deals with the needs of those who more generally "slow down" later in life, who may not need medical care, but seek assistance in their home.ÃÂ Individuals and families sometimes find it difficult navigating their way through the assessment processes and range of services available.
ÃÂ
Mike takes time to explain the difference between medical care and social care, how social care needs are assessed and when people receive funded care or when they might expect to pay for their care at home.
ÃÂ
The aspect of choice is covered - current policy in Cambridgeshire is to offer people as much choice as possible through Personal Budgets and Direct Payments.ÃÂ
ÃÂ
Mike offers details of organisations who support people with services and information, such as Age UK, Alzheimer's Society, Disability Cambridgeshire and a whole host of statutory, charitable, voluntary and commercial services.
ÃÂ
"Care in the home does not have to be delivered by just one organisation" Mike explains. ÃÂ "At Home Instead we offer a broad range of care and home help to people in their own homes in Cambridge and surrounding areas, often working alongside statutory services or local volunteer organisations.ÃÂ The important thing is that people get the care at home that they want, when they want it.ÃÂ Using different services allows people to achieve this and adds interest to an independent life."
ÃÂ
Any groups who might benefit from a talk on care at home in Cambridge are invited to contact Mike at Home Instead Senior Care on 01480 495834.ÃÂ The U3AC office kindly sent the following note which underlines the value of these informative sessions:
ÃÂ
Thank you very much for yesterday's talk. We have received some very positive feedback and glowing comments about the event - I think our members found it very informative. As a result, we were wondering if you might considering repeating it in the future, perhaps in the new year?
