Local Edinburgh ‘at home’ care company Home Instead joined other clubs, community groups and businesses at the annual Portobello Village Show to raise funds for Alzheimer Scotland’s Lothian Early Onset Support Service.
To shine a light on the role that taking regular physical activity can play in reducing the risk of developing dementia, we ran our ‘guess how many calories you will burn in two minutes on our exercise bike’ challenge.
Thanks to everyone who took part, from the many youngsters to one (highly competitive) older couple. Unfortunately, almost everyone was wildly optimistic about how many calories they would burn – including myself and our daughter Iona. Never mind, we still enjoyed the burgers from the Sailing Club’s BBQ!
Watch out for more events we will be running, on eating healthily, staying mentally active and keeping up social networks; all of which could reduce the risk of developing dementia.
