Local Broadstone lady, Janice Stevens aged 66, has been awarded the accolade of ‘Caregiver of the year’ by her employers Home Instead Senior Care in Bournemouth for her unfaltering dedication to the older people she looks after.
Having previously always worked in an office environment Janice changed direction to become a Caregiver in March 2010 and now works around 20 hours a week caring for her clients in their own homes. Her role can include personal care, home help and companionship.
Janice particularly wanted to work in the care sector because she loves working with the older generation and feels that it is important to be there for them to ensure that they stay part of the community and in control of their own environment.
Commenting on the award, owner of Home Instead in Bournemouth, Amanda Baker said: “Janice is very deserving of this title. She is very kind and caring and has become a trusted companion to her clients and their families. She has a particular aptitude for working with people with dementia and by going the extra mile she really does make a difference to people’s lives.”
Janice is delighted to have received this recognition from her employers. Commenting, she said: “I really enjoy my job and find the role extremely rewarding. I particularly enjoy spending quality time with my clients, often reminiscing with them about their lives, creating a real bond.”
Home Instead services include personal care such as assistance with bathing, dressing, eating and medications; home help covering all aspects of day-to-day housework, shopping, meal preparation and household duties; and companionship services that can involve everything from escorting clients on visits or appointments to simple conversation and good company.
