Jackie (58) worked at a local doctors’ surgery for 19 years before joining Home Instead. Starting as a receptionist and later becoming a healthcare assistant, Jackie always enjoyed the caring nature of the role. It was, however, the time she spent helping her mother to care for her father (who suffered from Parkinson’s disease) that made Jackie realise that she had a lot to give.
When she heard about the work being done in the area by Home Instead she jumped at the chance to become a caregiver with them. Jackie commented: “I have always been a chatty and caring person and I love to be able to put this to use in my career; it really does feel like I have found my calling. It is such a wonderful feeling when you can help support someone and allow them to retain their independence. Although it is my job to enrich the lives of my clients, they really do enrich my life too!”
Jackie lives in the Old Catton area of Norwich with her husband Paul who is self employed and creates fitted furniture for bedrooms and kitchens. Jackie has six clients who she sees regularly.
