Local businessman Kevan Barr is bucking the trend in the local jobs market. In the wake of sweeping job losses by local employers, Kevan’s at-home care company based in Broadstairs has some good news for local job seekers. He is calling for people to contact him about starting a new, rewarding career in the care sector.
Kevan, who set up Home Instead Senior Care in Broadstairs in 2009, currently employs 22 staff. He says he needs more Caregivers to cope with the high demand for care services for adults in their own homes across the Thanet area and is encouraging people to get in touch with him.
Kevan explains: “There are hundreds of local people out there feeling devastated at the loss of their jobs. It is an extremely challenging time but I would encourage them to look forward and start thinking about the possibility of a change in career direction. We have people in need of care right now and this is a trend set to continue as the ageing population means many more people are able to live independently in their own homes with just a little extra help from people like us.“
“I would seriously urge people to think about the skills that they could offer to help older people. Many people have life skills that they perhaps don’t value as much as they should. In our business, skills such as being a good communicator and listener as well as wanting to help others are at the centre of the service we provide. As for the rest, we offer a full training programme to ensure all of our staff are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills that they need.”
Home Instead are rapidly building a reputation as one of the UK’s leading care companies. Their unique service is tailored to the needs of individual clients and ranges from companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, post-discharge care, medication reminders, shopping and errands.
