The residents at Holmdell House, Harpenden, swapped their papers for Pilates this week as they attended a special Pilates exercise class for the elderly hosted by Home Instead Senior Care.
Fiona Harrall, owner of the St. Albans office of award winning at home care company, Home Instead Senior Care and care manager Cathy Dyer came up with the idea of organising an exercise class for the elderly after talking to their clients about their wish to do more exercise.
They enlisted local lady, Christine Austin, a qualified Pilates instructor, to take the class. Fourteen residents took part in special exercises adapted by Christine to suit their ability. The tea and cakes provided by Fiona and Cathy afterwards made it that extra bit more enjoyable and worth the effort.”
Commenting, Fiona said “It was great to see the residents enjoy doing something different and it is definitely something we will continue to do. It is important for elderly people to keep their minds and bodies as active as they can to help maintain their independence as long as possible.”
