Local Cannock woman, Helen Bensley, was recently awarded the first ever accolade of ‘Caregiver of the Month’ by her employers Home Instead Senior Care for the fantastic effort and commitment she gives to the elderly people she looks after.

Ex pub landlady, Helen, now works as a Caregiver for the Cannock office of at-home care provider, Home Instead Senior Care.  Her role involves caring for her clients in their own homes and can include personal care, home help and companionship.

Since joining Home Instead Helen and made great changes to her clients’ lives.  She gets her clients out of the house and takes them on shopping trips, out for coffee and even on day trips to museums.  As well as enhancing their social lives, Helen and encouraged her clients to take up previous hobbies they had such as knitting.  In fact three of Helen’s clients have each helped Helen to make a winter scarf.

The Cannock office is owned by Fran Sayer.  Commenting on the award, Fran said “Helen is very deserving of this title. She has a real empathy with her clients’ needs and by nature of the job continuously goes the extra mile for each individual client.”

Helen is delighted to have received this recognition from her employers and the first award in the company.  Each ‘Caregiver of the month’ is then put forward for the ‘Caregiver of the Year’ award.

Commenting, she said “I enjoy my job so much that it doesn’t really feel like work.  It allows me to develop friendships with my clients. I find the role extremely rewarding and the flexibility of the service that Home Instead provides means that as well as caring for them I can spend quality time with my clients, often reminiscing with them about their lives, creating a real bond.”

Colleagues gathered to congratulate Helen as the award was presented to her with a bottle of Champagne.  Instead services include personal care such as assistance with bathing, dressing, eating and medications; home help covering all aspects of day-to-day housework, shopping, meal preparation and household duties; and companionship services that can involve everything from escorting clients on visits or appointments to simple conversation and good company.
