Home Instead Senior Care, a local company specialising in at-home care for older people in their homes, in and around Oxford, is urging caring and compassionate people to consider a career in caring, as demand for their services is outweighing the number of CAREGivers.
Sue Dunster who owns Home Instead in Oxford, commented, “We’re still hearing of redundancies in the area and sometimes it feels like it’s all is doom and gloom but after two and a half years in business, our client base has grown at an expediential rate and as such we’re on the look-out for up to 20 caring individuals to join our team.”
Including self-employment, there are around 120,000 jobs in Oxford, which is more jobs than the working age population of 109,000. It’s estimated that jobs in public administration, education & health make up 46% of the jobs in Oxford, ranking this sector 1st out of 326 local authorities in England, with 26.4% being the English average. Clearly, these figures paint Oxford’s employment in a very positive light but a recent study by Oxford City Council found that 5,100 people from the Caring, Leisure and Other Service occupations were reported as being out of work from April 2011 – March 2012, which is 6.3% of Oxford’s population.
Sue adds, “A career in caring is extremely rewarding and sociable and if you have a caring disposition with a professional attitude, this could be the perfect career move. Professional experience is not essential but individuals who’ve taken healthcare and public health courses at our local universities would fit in very well.”
She continues, “With an ageing population, caring for the elderly is a very important issue and we have found many people are pleased to learn that we offer a realistic ‘stay at home’ option. Although our existing CAREGivers come from a hugely varied background, the one thing they have in common is that they all have a real passion for helping others and caring for people in our local community.”
Home Instead Senior Care offers services tailored to the needs of individual clients and ranges from companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, post-discharge care, personal care, medication reminders, shopping and errands.
