We are proud to announce that Marie Cavanagh’s Grandson Tyrese Jeffers has been awarded Outstanding Young Person in the Hillingdon Local Heroes 2012 awards. These awards culminated in a Gala night on Thursday 12th July at Uxbridge College sponsored by the Uxbridge Gazette and leader news, where the Mayor of Hillingdon presented the awards.
Tyrese was nominated by his family for helping his Mother Michelle who is deaf by making phone calls and taking messages and on the gala night he was keeping her up to date on the winners as they were announced. For most eight-year olds, looking after their deaf mother might be too much but he takes it all in his stride. Tyrese has been learning sign language since he was four and this allows him to communicate with his Mother. Tyrese shows a caring and mature nature, he has also phoned for an ambulance in an emergency situation where he stayed calm and collected.
Tyrese is never without a smile and he says modestly “It’s not that much to do and I don’t mind helping out.” When he picked up his award with a huge smile he said he was surprised enough about being nominated and said winning the award was a real shock.
