The week beginning 18 June was Carers Week and, to acknowledge and celebrate the unpaid work of carers, Home Instead Senior Care and Wood Hall Hotel joined together to offer a superb prize to one lucky carer. Wetherby in Support of the Elderly (WiSE,) who work closely with Home Instead Senior Care Wetherby, was asked to judge the entries and selected Mrs Rose Westerman as a worthy winner.
Mrs Westerman won a fabulous Spa Day for two with a delicious cream tea at Wood Hall Hotel and Spa, and to enable her to enjoy a day of relaxation and rejuvenation, Home Instead Senior Care Wetherby will provide a CAREGiver to look after her husband.
Carers Week is a national initiative with support from organisations such as Age UK, Carers UK and Macmillan, to raise awareness of the crucial role that unpaid carers play in our community. The theme for this year’s Carers week is ‘in sickness and in health’ and aims to encourage carers to think about their own physical and emotional health.
Across the Leeds area there are more than 70,000 unpaid carers and, although Home Instead Senior Care Wetherby is a company that provides support in people’s homes, they are acutely aware of the number of ‘unsung heroes’ who provide care for family members and friends, often in very difficult circumstances. The company works closely with WiSE who are a registered charity that provide community based activities, information, help and support to the elderly in the area.
