We have become an "AA Promoter"
We believe that there are many people living in our area who are unaware that they are eligible to claim Attendance Allowance. We want to help to identify these people and refer them to Age UK Northumberland’s Welfare Rights team. They will be able to check eligibility and provide help to fill in the forms. Attendance Allowance is paid at one of two weekly rates: higher rate of £77.45 or lower rate of £51.85 (2012/2013).
What is Attendance Allowance and who can claim? Attendance Allowance is a benefit for people aged 65 years and over to help them cope with the costs they incur because of their physical or mental disability. The allowance is based on the help a person needs – not the help they are actually getting. These needs must have existed for at least six months before making a claim. It is “extra income” to be spent on anything the recipient wishes. It is not means-tested, so it doesn’t matter how much your other income is, or how much savings you have. Attendance Allowance can help someone stay independent in their own home.
