Home Instead Senior Care; Maidenhead joined a band of walkers to undertake a 5 Km sponsored walk around Dorney Lake last weekend. This impressive purpose built facility, overlooked by Winsor Castle, will be the venue for the rowing in the forthcoming summer Olympics and provided the perfect backdrop for some excellent fundraising activity.

The walk which was sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care: Windsor & Runnymede, was opened by the Mayor of Maidenhead & Windsor and the television celebrity Faith Brown, with the Chairman of Alzheimer’s Dementia Care, David Jannetta and his team of volunteers on hand for support.

Out of over 100 entrants, Home Instead Senior Care; Maidenhead’s intrepid team finished the walk in record time ….well actually we did finish the walk, but like everyone else we enjoyed ourselves so much that no one bothered to time it! Donations are still coming in but at last count the event raised over £3000 for the charity so well done all.

The Maidenhead in home care team was led from the rear by Paul Westgarth the franchise owner of the Home Instead Senior Care Maidenhead, Henley and Wallingford branch, who somewhat breathlessly commented that:

We come across Alzheimer’s and dementia every day in our in home care provision, so we have a thorough appreciation of the issues that can bring. Keeping close links with our local community in Maidenhead & Windsor and particularly groups like Alzheimer’s Dementia Support helps us to provide better care to our clients in their own homes. It’s a really supportive group and we are proud to be able raise funds to help them to help people live longer more fulfilling lives in their own homes”.

Alzheimer’s Dementia Support was been formed to support people with Dementia and their carer’s in Windsor, Maidenhead, Ascot, Slough & Langley. They provide a wide range of advice, information and services and they are always looking to expand as fundraising allows. They can be found at www.alzheimersdementiasupport.co.uk
